Kind of useless for Indons to scream “banci, banci!” at us Malaysians. The word has a totally non-offensive meaning in Bahasa Melayu, LMAO and ROTFL.
Seriously, this left me in giggles and pretty much convinced me that Bahasa Melayu of the Indonesian variant is certainly very regionalised. So don’t blame me if this image pops up in my mind whenever I see the word “merumput” being used in Indonesian media
I’m researching and planning to write a detailed article on the Sulu claims over Sabah. In the meantime, read this commentary and this one from Farish Noor.
An interesting video which recorded a phone interview with Indonesian historian-scholar by the name of Remy Sylado, which certainly lays bare the issue of the average Indonesian’s obsession with culture. Hopefully this will actually educate these people into realising that no one culture is exclusively theirs.
