It should currently be recognized that the Muslim world is an integral part of the Semitic tradition. For too long have the 1.5 billion Muslims, who compose 1/4 of this planet’s population been excluded from this fact, due to either lack of understanding or simply outright religious discrimination. The Near Eastern and Semitic Studies information Archive (NESSIA) is a digital library that aims to produce a collection of documents, books and images that are associated with the near east as well as Semitic studies.
The aim of NESSIA is to push for the understanding of the Muslim world, the faith of Islam and the Arabic language in the context of the Semitic linguistic, spiritual and cultural tradition. NESSIA is therefore a pioneering venture from the Muslim world into the sphere of Orientalism. The ultimate goal is to position itself as a helpful resource for students, academicians as well as laymen curious about these subjects to go to the site and use their collection as a resource for their references.
